Mike grew up in Oakland and attended St. Elizabeth High School, where he often competed against O’Dowd on the basketball court. Shaped by his Catholic education, he went on to teach English and Social Studies for 15 years at a variety of Bay Area schools, both Catholic and public.

A longtime friend of O’Dowd’s former dean Gary Mason, whom he met while attending Southern Utah State University, Mike first joined the O’Dowd community as a substitute teacher in the 1990s before later becoming a full-time member of the Campus Safety team. He appreciates O’Dowd as a place that helps expand students’ understanding of the world.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys writing—recently joining a creative writing class—as well as biking, listening to music, and following sports.
