Ian enjoys helping students discover the excitement of understanding how the world works. Originally from Berkeley, he earned his BS in Applied Physics from Columbia University, his MEd in Secondary Education from Arizona State University, and his MA in Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is motivated by the moment when students experience the spark of understanding and emphasizes learning through teaching and collaboration in his classroom. He believes science and mathematics provide powerful models for describing and interpreting the physical world. Outside of school, he enjoys board games, biking, and searching for the best burritos.
