The O’Dowd track & field teams are ready to begin their road to the state meet, set for June 3 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
The women’s team is one of the top programs in Northern California and considered a premier program in the state of California.
Led by sprinter Tierra Robinson-Jones ’18, the Lady Dragons hope to defend their North Coast Section title on May 26-27 at Edwards Field at the University of California at Berkeley. Robinson-Jones has been in the top 20 in the US in the 400-meter race all outdoor season.
Seniors Lauryn Moore and Hana Johnson, who recently signed national letters of intent to run track at San Diego State and UC Riverside respectively, bring lots of experience and leadership to the team, while underclassmen Maya Jenkins ’18, Jordan Jones ’19 and Jasmine Powell ’19 bring energy and hunger to the Lady Dragons quest to repeat.
The men’s team, led by all-league hurdler Andrew Pike ’17 and sprinter Matt Challenger ’17 will try to repeat as WACC league champions on May 13. With contributions from Jon Anane ’18, Austin Jones ’19, Jelani Warren ’19 and Jon Kyriacou ’19, the team is in a great position to make some noise in league, Bayshore, and NCS.
