College Match is a national program that pairs high-achieving, low-income or first generation high school seniors with nearly 40 QuestBridge college partners, which include most of the Ivy League schools, Stanford, MIT, and USC.
Schroepfer was one of 5,759 finalists chosen from 15,606 applicants. These finalists have an average grade point average of 3.89, and 88 percent are in the top 10 percent of their class. In addition, 72 percent of them will be the first in their families to attend a 4-year college.
“This is a really tough program to get into. I’ve had students apply but not get as far,” Director of Counseling Fran Warmerdam said.
Schroepfer said that when she first learned of the opportunity, the program seemed too good to be true, but added “I’m glad I put the time in to apply.”
Now that she has been named a finalist, Schroepfer ranks up to 12 of the QuestBridge College partners in order of preference and submits applications to these colleges – which have all reserved a certain number of spots for QuestBridge applicants.
“The schools that I rank can choose to accept me or not, and I will be matched with the one that’s highest up on my list that wants to match with me,” she said.
Of the more than 5,000 finalists about 800 are matched and receive full scholarships. The others are admitted to the various colleges through the regular decision process and receive partial scholarships.
Colleges at the top of Schorepfer’s list include Emory University in Atlanta, University of Chicago and Bowdoin College.
QuestBridge will advise finalists on December 1 whether they have been matched to a college partner.
