The O’Dowd community gathered on December 8 to celebrate the beginning of Advent, as well as the Immaculate Conception and Christmas. This liturgy served as a time to stop with “awe and wonder” in the holy darkness of the season.
The blessing of the Advent wreath reminded us of the hope, peace, joy and love we celebrate during the Lenten season as we look forward to the return of the light – Jesus Emmanuel, God with us.
The theme of the liturgy, “Faith Takes Courage,” was reflected in the Campus Ministry Team skit based on “Toy Story” and the homily delivered by campus chaplain Fr. Jim Sullivan, in which he shared his personal experience when he was first assigned as chaplain and a teacher at O’Dowd and was unsure about his new role.
The liturgy concluded with a joyous medley of Christmas songs.
