Please join me in congratulating our varsity men’s basketball players and coaches on their gutsy 67-64 come from behind victory last night over Sacred Heart Cathedral in the CIF NorCal Division III semifinals. Our team showed great resilience in the game, trailing 17-5 after the first period, 19-29 at halftime, and entire third period. It wasn’t until 4:30 remaining in the game that we took our first lead 48-46. Sacred Heart Cathedral responded with a 10-2 run to regain the lead, 56-50 with 3:13 remaining. We cut the deficit to 58-59 with 1:00 remaining before Sacred Heart Cathedral responded with a basket to increase their lead to 58-61 with 56.2 seconds remaining. With 45.6 remaining, sophomore Naseem Gaskins hit the game tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime. In the overtime period, we played great defense and hit some tough shots to prevail 67-64 and punch our ticket to the championship game.
Our team will face No. 2 seed Manteca at American Canyon High School at 8pm on Saturday for the NorCal Division III title.
