Women’s Rugby Update Feb 9, 2019

OAKLAND CA- The O’Dowd women’s rugby team moved to 2-0 in Northern California league play with a 34-15 bonus point victory over debutante rugby program Carondelet. It was the first time in Northern California rugby history that two Catholic High School women’s programs have played each other in the 15-a-side code. Senior wing Amira Moore opened the Dragon’s account touching down after just 5 minutes of play, followed by a try at the end of an explosive 60-yard run by sophomore front rower Malia Jenkins. Then senior 8th man Ruby Crudo took over the match running riot for a hat trick of tries. In the final quarter freshman Center Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen scored a scintillating try after some sublime passing skill. Kicker and wing senior Juliana Weinerth went 2/6 on conversions, but to be fair many of them were from the perimeter. Much credit to the Carondelet Cougars, in their first season they really played hard and showed much class in their competitive spirit.

Ladies Of The Match as picked by the opposition. O’Dowd’s Ruby Crudo and Kat Trinchero bookended by their Carondelet counterparts.
