O’Dowd Cheer Wins Tradition Plaque at UCA Cheer Camp

This summer on July 20 members of the O’Dowd cheer team traveled to UC Berkeley for the UCA (United Cheer Association) camp.  They received tutoring in stunting, dance performance and sideline cheer from college coaches and cheerleaders.  The time also included bonding and competing with cheerleaders from other Northern California schools.  The members of team were judged daily on performance technique and received numerous superior gold ribbons and two superior blue ribbons.  We had three cheerleaders qualify for All-American, 1st time ever Freshmen Kelsei Cobbs, and Seniors Josie Boyd-Conn and Yasmine Patton.  The All-American qualifies them to cheer in Houston or London with an international team.

Championship day is the highlight of camp every year.  The teams face the final judging of the skills that they’ve acquired over the three days and this year both JV and Varsity brought home trophies, two spirit sticks and the Tradition Plaque.  This plaque goes to the team who demonstrates the spirit of team traditions all through the camp.  Congratulations to our JV and Varsity cheer teams!
