Why I Teach:
The trajectory of my life changed for the better because of my high school teachers; I started teaching to pay that debt forward. I keep teaching because I love young people and the perspective they bring to the world and my life.
Most powerful teaching technique:
Listening
Why are the subjects you teach important?:
We've seen a major fall off in civic participation and civil discourse in recent years. A quality social studies education is a critical part of bringing that back and, equally important, making sure it evolves to include all of us, not just some of us.
Favorite quotes:
"Today, if we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other." Mother Teresa
Favorite trivia:
When you learn history from the seat of herstory, you'll find you likely don't know as much as you think you do.
Recommended visual media:
Recommended reads:
The Bluest Eye, A Place for Us, In the Time of Butterflies, Dare to Lead, Becoming, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Universe, Charlotte's Web,
Hobbies or outside interests:
Gardening, reading, hanging out with animals, my kids, and their friends.
