Get strategies for talking to your teen(s) about sex and consent! As part of our ongoing effort to educate students about healthy relationships and to support families in as the primary educators of their children, we are excited to invite you to a special presentation by sexual literacy educator and author Natasha Singh. The presentation titled Opening the Lines of Communication: Talking to Kids About Sex, Intimacy, and Pornography will help parents and guardians identify some of their core values around conversations of sex and sexuality with their teen and demonstrate how these conversations can affect sexual health outcomes. Natasha will talk about the importance of cultivating media and gender literacy, resilience, pornography literacy, and digital ethics, as well as address some of the known effects of early exposure to highly sexualized images and narratives in the media landscape. She will share strategies about how to talk to teens about sex and sexuality, consent, and technology, and how to cultivate resilience and strengthen awareness of consent and bodily autonomy.
Natasha’s recently published article in the Atlantic, Talk to Your Kids About Porn, provides some context for the presentation. The article How to Talk to Kids About Sex and Consent by the Child Mind Institute provides some further guidance.
The evening presentation will be preceded by a presentation during the day to the Junior class on consent and to the Senior class on bystander intervention. This is an excellent opportunity for families to continue the conversations at home.
