This morning, we received information that caused concern for the safety of our campus and so we placed the campus in a “shelter in place” to give us time to further investigate.
At that time, we did not believe that there was any imminent danger to our students or personnel, but we proceeded with an abundance of caution.
We contacted the police who assisted us in determining appropriate next steps to ensure campus safety. We followed their recommendations.
We communicated to the students and teachers over the public address announcement that there was no imminent danger and that we recommended quiet study until we could lift the status.
After about 40 minutes, we were able to return to our planned academic schedule.
When we pursue campus safety in this regard, we close campus (close the gates) in order to give us time and a controlled environment in order to problem-solve.
In matters such as today, we address safety first and then focus on swift and efficient communication with our families. That takes a bit of time, so thank you for supporting us in that process on behalf of your students.
Best,
J.D. Childs President, Bishop O’Dowd High School
