They also offered students practical advice regarding college choices and summer programs that could provide students a leg up in the college admissions process.
The group included Marc Carmichael, PhD. (biomedical engineering) and medical student at Stanford University School of Medicine (neurosurgery resident in 2017); Donna Carey, MD, Chief of Pediatrics at Highland Hospital; Nicolas Drbal, DPM, a podiatrist at Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation; and Warren Strudwick, MD, MBA, orthopaedic surgeon and Oakland Raiders team physician.
Stalfana Bello, MPA, executive director of Physicians Medical Forum played a key role in coordinating the panel. Her grandson currently attends O’Dowd.
“You have a high-powered panel here,” said Beito to the students.
Each professional encouraged the students to pursue their passion. “You guys can do anything you want to do. Choose something you like and that has value to other people,” Strudwick advised.
