Molleen Dupree-Dominguez’s Christian Morality class welcomed guest speaker Peter Cajka, PhD, a scholar of the historical development of conscience in the Catholic tradition, via video chat on Monday morning. He is currently completing a fellowship in Ireland.
The class is beginning its study of the role conscience plays in morality, and students read an article of Dr. Cajka’s in preparation for the conversation.
Dr. Cajka offered remarks on his research, which has been mainly about the explosion of interest in conscience among Catholics in the 20th century. Then, students engaged in a question and answer session where they clarified their understanding of the philosophy of conscience in the Catholic tradition and talked about the application of conscience to contemporary issues. It was an informative, rigorous conversation, thanks to technology.
