One of the more popular co-curricular activities at O’Dowd, O’Dowd theatre students ignite the community with several performances a year in our beautiful 325-seat performing arts center. From classics to musicals to modern plays, each year brings something new to applaud.

Chicago The Musical

Come on babe why don’t we paint the town! And all that Jazz!

This year’s spring show is the Tony award winning musical Chicago! A universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another! Chicago is a satire on the universal truth of corruption and celebrity.

Set in Roaring Twenties Chicago, Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband to take the fall, until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on her. Facing conviction and death row, Roxie, and another “Merry Murderess”, Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.

Come see why this dark musical comedy holds the record for the longest running revival and the longest running American musical in Broadway history!

We Were There: A Crisis Reflected

O’Dowd’s original show from Fall 2020 is now available! “We Were There: A Crisis Reflected” features student-produced monologues, scenes, songs, dance, and film that responds to both living through a global pandemic, and the heightened social, political, and cultural crisis to address institutionalized racism in our country.

“In theatre, we are humanitarians. We make change by telling stories. That’s our charism for social justice. We help people see the world differently, and we motivate them to action.”
