Dear Dragon Families,
Graduation is a very special time. To celebrate our Class of 2022, the O’Dowd community will host a number of fun and memorable events. To assist you in planning, this page includes a schedule of our upcoming activities and deadlines. Please save this information for reference until graduation and check back for updates. Students will receive additional information during school announcements, so please encourage them to be attentive. Note that behavior and attire should reflect the nature of the event. If you have any questions about graduation, please contact Ms. Marguerite Green, Associate Director of Student Activities.
Ordering Caps, Gowns & Announcements
We use Achievers for caps, gowns, and announcements. The cost of cap and gown is paid to Achievers by Bishop O’Dowd High School, you only need to submit the size here by March 15. A note for parents from the Director of Student Activities & Associate Director of Student Activities
Dear Parents and Guardians of Seniors,
What do you remember from those last days of high school? Perhaps you can recall the anticipation and excitement. It is with this same excitement that O’Dowd is informing you of TWO major activities being organized for the Class of 2022 as they head towards graduation day:
Senior Ball – May 13, 2022
The Senior Ball will be held on the USS Hornet in Alameda on May 13, 6:00 – 10:00pm. The seniors will enjoy an elegant dinner followed by dancing, photos, and reminiscing about their high school days. The $120 cost of the Senior Ball is per student. Purchase tickets here until May 9. Guest passes are available online, in the Student Activities Office, and in the Main Office. A completed permission slip (including guest pass) must be turned in to Ms. Marguerite Green by May 6.
Grad Night – May 19, 2022
A full evening on May 19 from 6:00 – 10:00pm, starting with a BBQ at the CES, leading into the senior sunset. The quad will transform into a night of dancing, connection, and fun with our Carnival Faire! There will be games, activities, and cotton candy! There is no school for seniors on Friday, May 20.
If you have any questions about Senior Ball or Senior Night, or require some financial assistance, email Ms. Marguerite Green, Associate Director of Student Activities. Please write CLASS OF 2022 in the subject line.
Starr Gray and Marguerite Green
9:00am, Lower Field on O’Dowd campus.
Seating will be assigned. Gates open at 7:30.
Commencement is a special and dignified event. Seniors are to wear their unaltered and undecorated caps and gowns. Attire should be appropriate for a dignified commencement ceremony. All graduates should wear dress shoes with backings. School dress code will be in effect and enforced.
Each family will be limited to one car – we will be providing each student one parking pass. Like last year, for safety and out of respect to our neighbors, we strongly discourage anyone from parking in the neighborhood. Each student may have up to 7 guests at Commencement.

Campus Parking – Due to limited parking space on campus, each graduate and their family will be allowed to park one car on campus. Gates will open at 7:30am and cars must present the parking pass at the gate to the Security Team.
Friend/Uber/Lyft Drop Off – We also highly encourage families to consider having a friend or paid car service provide drop-off and pick-up service to graduation – this low stress solution avoids the complexities of parking and shuttle and ensures a smooth, safe arrival and departure after graduation. All cars dropping off individuals should do so at the 98th Avenue Drop Off Area. Commencement guests will walk up stairs to the Lower Field and present their Commencement ticket to the Security Team at the gate.
Neighborhood Parking – For safety and to respect our neighbors, we ask that families do everything possible to not park in the neighborhood.
Parking Shuttles – For additional cars, Commencement guests may park their car at the Church of the Assumption in San Leandro and take an O’Dowd Shuttle to campus. Shuttle service will run from 7:45am-8:15am.
Please use this form to communicate if your party will utilize the Shuttle Service from Assumption.
