The Lillian Black Festival of the Arts which was hosted by O’Dowd’s Fine Arts Department last weekend was a big success with art exhibits in the gym area and music and dance performances held in the O’Dowd theater. The theater performances opened with sets by O’Dowd’s String Orchestra and Symphonic Band. This event shows off the wonderful talents of art and music students from local Catholic Schools. We look forward to expanding this great event in the future.
O’Dowd’s Symphonic Band hosted the MUSE Band program’s Winter Concert at the O’Dowd Theater in a fun event in which our group opened for the MUSE Band’s middle school music students where were thoroughly inspired by the proceedings.
Congratulations to O’Dowd’s talented Jazz Workshop musicians who played a great set at
the Campana Jazz Festival. We received excellent critiques and musical advice from music educator Cindy Browne-Rosefield and a specail shout out to Della Healy and Julia Lidsky who won “Outstanding Musicianship” awards at the festival
Two stellar O’Dowd music alumni happened to be in town and were able to have a fun reunion with Mr. Randolph at The Englander in San Leandro. Claire Chaix graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in commercial arranging. She has moved back to the Bay Area and is freelancing as a pianist, violist, and arranger. Natalie Scott graduated from Purdue University and continues her participation in community chamber and orchestra groups. It was inspiring to see how well these talented young ladies are doing.
This year’s Winter Concert was amazing with 5 performing groups performing a wide range of music from Wagner to Weather Report and beyond. Check out the videos!
