DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

THURSDAY , DECEMBER 9, 2021

 

As always, the library is a place for silent study. Group rooms are reserved for group study only.  Each student must be seated and mindful of library rules. Once all the library seats are occupied, students will be directed to the Annex which has been designated as a quiet study area during finals week.

Finals Week Library Hours

Monday – Thursday: 7am – 4pm

Friday: Library closed except for scheduled make up exams

Sophomore Retreat Registration Deadline  – The Registration deadline for Sophomores who signed up for Sophomore Retreat is today, Thursday, December 9th. Please make sure that you submit both the online registration payment and the signed permission slip to Ms. Prescilla Gurrea in Campus Ministry (2nd Floor Dominican Hall, room 21.) Questions Contact Ms. Yavorsky, Retreat Coordinator

Take a study break in the library and make an ornament for our Bookmas Tree. Your name will be entered in the Book-a-Day December Give-Away.  Treats too!

 

Craft Club Holiday Sale –  Still have some last minute shopping to do? You’re in luck because Craft Club will be selling homemade crafts, including super cool snow globes, really cute plushies, and more! PLEASE BRING CASH! The sale will take place this Friday during lunch, on the quad. All of the money made on the sale will be going to St. Vincent’s Day Home.  

 

Hey Music Lovers:  Don’t miss the instrumental music department’s first full live concert in a year and a half TONIGHT Thursday December 9th at 7:30pm in the theater.

Come see and hear our talented music students perform music from classical to jazz to funk.  Admission is Free!

TODAY, we will have friendship bracelet-making kits and t-shirt printing. Come see us on the quad with your blank t-shirts!

The June 2022 trip to Paris and surrounding areas is now open for enrollment. No experience with French is necessary! For details and registration contact Dr. Polsky at zpolsky@bishopodowd.org

Attention all actors, singers, dancers, and everyone else!!

We are having a winter workshop for the exciting spring musical Chicago! Come learn the music and the style of Fosse! (Fossie)  Get prepared for auditions! Don’t act, sing or dance? We will teach you!  Workshop is Monday December 6, and 7 in the Theater.  From 3:30-6:30. All levels welcome! 

 

Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – calling all spoken word artists and poets! This year for our annual Dr. King celebration we will be hosting a poetry slam with the theme “My Dream of Freedom”.  A sign up sheet is posted outside of student activities.  You can write an original spoken word poem or a poem that you admire from another artist.  All poems must be submitted to Mama Green for approval.  The day of the celebration is Thursday January 20, 2022 during community time.

ATHLETICS

Calling all Dragon swimmers-It’s time to jump in and get wet!! If you are interested in swimming this year on the O’Dowd swim team please come by and see Mr. Kohler in room 108 some time in the next week to sign up. Our first team meeting will be in January with the season kicking off in Feb. See you on the pool deck!!!! 

If you have a small PE locker, you must take your lock home tomorrow and all of your belongings before 3:30 PM. If you do not, the lock and belongings will be taken out. Those that still have a sports locker will be fine until your season is over. If you have any questions, please see Coach K downstairs of the gymnasium.

If you have clothes, papers or books in the cheer office, they must be taken home with you today or they will be tossed.  Thank you!

“Be a part of O’Dowd lacrosse! The Boys lacrosse team will be holding an informational meeting for all students interested in playing during the spring season. No previous experience in the sport is necessary to play! Come meet head coach Joe Rabinowitz TODAY Wednesday 12/8  in the Dominican Hall Lounge to learn about the program and what’s to come in the spring season. We’ve got a great program and are always looking for new players to join.”

Feelings Forward Club will be hosting a movie night this Monday, December 6th at 4 PM in the Dominican Lounge. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, dress in your Christmas PJ’s and bring some blankets, pillows, and mugs. Invite your friends!

VARSITY – GRAND CHAMPIONS (HIGHEST SCORE OF THE NIGHT) 1ST IN SIDELINE CHEER, 2ND SHOW CHEER, JUNIOR VARSITY , 1ST SHOW CHEER.  THIS IS THE SECOND LEG OF VARSITY’S JOURNEY TO NATIONALS, SO WHEN YOU SEE A CHEERLEADER TODAY CONGRATULATE THEM BECAUSE THEY BROUGHT THE DRAGON PRIDE AND SPIRIT THIS PAST SATURDAY!

We want all twins and triplets of the senior class, as well as all seniors with their younger siblings to attend.  If you have a parent or other family member among the staff, we can take that picture too!

Novice debate practice on Wednesday is in the cafeteria annex this week only

The Drama Department is happy to announce our fall show, As You Like It

This musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy by Shaina Taub and Laurie Woolery was named one of the New York Times’ best shows of 2017. Featuring a contemporary folk/pop score alongside Shakespeare’s prose, As You Like It is a dream-like tale of faithful friends, feuding families and lovers in disguise. Come venture with us into the forest of Arden, where all are welcome and love has the last word!

Ticket order forms can also be found in the main office and in the lobby of the theater. You are also free to purchase more tickets online with this link here.
