The objective of this class is for students to make connections between essay writing and other forms of writing that appear in everyday life, and to practice forming an academic essay to O'Dowd's standards.
Essay writing is one of the most important academic skills with which to arm a student. This class aims to help students see that conveying information and analysis is a practice that they encounter all the time in many different forms, including the essay. Lessons are paired with something from pop culture to help build strong connections between academic writing and real life. Students will learn different types of essays, and practice the research, planning, drafting, editing, and proofreading processes of writing an essay.
Join our "College App Essay Writing Workshop!" Ethan Sawyer, the "College Essay Writing Guy" will send one of his fabulous colleagues, the "College Essay Writing Girl" to run a workshop for us (and students from St. Mary's and Moreau Catholic) on how to start and write fabulous essays for both the UC system and the Common App. If you are already signed up for the full College Boot Camp, this is already included.
What To Bring: Paper and pen, or a fully charged laptop...and, of course, snacks and water for the breaks
We'd love to get at least 100 more seniors to take this opportunity. Writing the essay is sometimes the most difficult part of the process, and this workshop will show you that it can be done. And done well!
Additionally, Ethan will include an onlline course on the UC and Common App that you can utilize after the course to keep yourself focused.
(This camp is only open to O'Dowd students entering 12th
Students will participate in an intensive workshop geared towards helping rising seniors plan and complete their college applications and write their college essays. O'Dowd counselors will guide students through the myriad of application types and work with students on polishing their college resume.
