College and Career Counseling

Each year, students discover a bit more about who they are and who they are becoming. Bishop O'Dowd High School’s integrated career and college curriculum, On Your Mark, Get Set, Go, guides students through the process of discernment, which will lead to thoughtful choices regarding the future.

Freshmen
  • Introduced to Family Connection/Naviance through “On Your Mark” in Hebrew Scriptures class
  • Complete the “Learning Styles Inventory” in Family Connection
Sophomores
  • Continue their work in Family Connection through “Get Set”
  • Complete the Personality Styles Inventory/Career Inventory in Family Connection
  • Visit the Counseling Resource Center for orientation
Juniors
  • Work in Family Connection through “Go” and through Career Workshop in Christian Morality class
  • Visit the Counseling Resource Center for in-depth career and college exploration
  • Begin College List and testing schedule with counselor
  • Begin research of colleges through Family Connection, college visits, etc.
  • Begin rough draft essays during the summer
Seniors
  • Complete Senior Questionnaire
  • Meet with counselor to finalize college list and set up “To Do” list for college applications and testing
  • Submit essays to counselor for review
  • Submit Teacher Recommendation forms to instructors
  • Complete financial aid forms with parents, including CSS Profile, FAFSA and Cal Grant GPA Verification forms
  • Enter names of all colleges to which they were accepted into Family Connections/Naviance
  • Send Student Intent to Register to one college or university by May 1
