Letter From the Deans
When O’Dowd parents complete the registration process and agree to the rules and expectations in the Parent Handbook, the school administration depends on parent support of the philosophy, rules and expectations.
In an effort to support students in making safe and healthy choices, it is important to remind our community that all of our activities are “drug and alcohol free.” It is our expectation that when students attend events (after the Christmas Ball parties, etc.) at the homes of fellow students that parents will clearly communicate that drugs and alcohol are not permitted, and then actively supervise the gathering.
By working together, we can reinforce the fact that underage drinking is against the law, dangerous and irresponsible. Explicit details were shared during our Teen Challenge Meetings. Thank you for your diligence in keeping our students safe and informed.
(From page 19 of the Handbook: “A student may be suspended or expelled from school for any serious breach of school policy or for any behavior that places the school in disrepute. This applies to behavior that occurs both on campus and off campus and during and outside of class time.” Also see pages 23 and 24 of the Handbook.)
Gary Mason and Sondra Arnsdorf, Deans
Philosophy
As Deans in a Catholic school, we assist students in understanding and exemplifying behavior and values that are consistent with the schools mission and philosophy. We work collaboratively with students, staff and parents to assist students in reaching their potential by making positive and informed decisions that show respect and sensitivity for themselves and others.
The Deans support students and provide clarification in the areas of planning, problem solving, discipline and attendance. We assist students, staff and parents in addressing the challenges of high school by providing guidance and developing limits. We expect students to grow in their ability to accurately assess situations, select appropriate responses, recognize the effects and consequences of responses and be effective problem solvers.
