Student Government

Student Government at Bishop O’Dowd includes class officers and representatives at all grade levels. The school-elected Associated Student Body officers oversee the school government at-large, with each class having an elected class president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer. In addition, each homeroom has an elected representative that participates in the monthly student council meetings, as well as in leadership trainings throughout the school year.

August 2010 - News Update

The 2010-11 Associated Student Body (ASB) officers spent the last two weeks generating some great ideas to institute this school year.  With the addition of new Student Activities Director Heidi Stepp, the group's main agenda item is to not let the upcoming be a “transition” year.  They want to have a positive impact on the activities that are traditions here at Bishop O’Dowd High School, but also open the door for new ideas/traditions.

ASB President Michelle Dold ‘11 and her cabinet are working diligently to make BOWOW (Bishop O’Dowd Week of Welcome) an unforgettable experience for the incoming freshmen. Publicist Sam Clark-Clough ‘12 has used his creative instinct to develop Zoo Walk information that is certain to grab all students’ attention.  Vice President Laura Goslee has prepared a detailed, color coded calendar for the staff so we are “in the loop” of what’s happening around O’Dowd.  Secretary Mackenzie Daniel ‘11 has kept the group on track with her daily scribing and organizational skills: the freshmen nametags are sorted and color coded for BOWOW.  And Treasurer Kevin Daley ‘11 has prepared an unforgettable skit for BOWOW.

At the Student Council Retreat on Aug 10, the ASB will cover three main items with their fellow students:  Zoo Walk, Spirit Week, and Expectations/Opportunities throughout the school year.  One change that ASB has agreed to implement is to encourage each grade level’s class officers and homeroom reps to plan a lunchtime activity during second semester.  Additionally, any club or committee can host a lunch time activity throughout the school year.  Forms for approval are in Room 21.

Another change that will happen in relation to freshman elections is that the voting that takes place in homerooms will be for class officers AND homeroom reps.  More information will follow about that change.  Finally, the students are preparing a massive marketing campaign for Zoo Walk.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please email us.

Thank you for your continued support!  It’s going to be a great year!
