Tuition Assistance Statement

Admissions decisions will be emailed this Friday, March 17 at approximately 3 p.m., along with tuition assistance decisions. This year we continued to experience a steep increase in financial need amongst our applicant pool that exceeds our tuition assistance resources.

O’Dowd is committed to scaling access to an O’Dowd education. Since 2005, tuition assistance has increased 300%. We currently provide more than $3 million in tuition assistance to our new and returning families. The admissions and tuition assistance committees work in collaboration to determine tuition assistance awards based on a comprehensive review of each student’s application. All applicants for assistance are carefully considered. Because we are committed to need-blind admissions, there are students who meet our merit-based admissions criteria who may be accepted without tuition assistance.

For the 2017-18 school year, we received in excess of 300 tuition assistance applications from our 800 freshman applicants; this, combined with our returning students, has left us with insufficient aid to meet all needs. We understand that the tuition notification you will receive on Friday may not be what you expect, and it is our hope that you will be able to fund your student’s O’Dowd education through other funding sources. We have fully allocated tuition assistance available for 2017 -2018 and there are insufficient funds for granting appeals.

As always, we are available to answer your questions and concerns. Please feel free to contact either Nancy MacKinnon, Business Manager, Tuition & Tuition Assistance, in the Business Office at 510-553-8671 at nmackinnon@bishopodowd.org, or Kerryn Pincus Gallagher, Director of Admissions, at 510-577-9100, ext. 603, or kpincus@bishopodowd.org.

Sincerely,

Kerryn Pincus Gallagher       Christine Garavaglia

Tuition assistance

O’Dowd’s commitment to access and affordability ensures that tuition assistance is available to incoming 9th grade students with demonstrated financial need. It is our goal to allow as many qualified students as we have means, the opportunity to attend O’Dowd.

To apply for tuition assistance for the 2017-2018 school year, submit both of the online applications below. The first application is to FACTS, the company used to help assess need and collect income and tax documentation by your upload or by fax. The second application is the O’Dowd in-house application.

FACTS/FACE Application O’Dowd In-House Application

Both online applications and all required documentation must be submitted by February 6, 2017 for incoming 9th grade students and February 16, 2017 for returning students to be considered for tuition assistance

If you have additional questions about tuition assistance, please contact Nancy Mackinnon at (510)577-9100 x 171 or by email.
